As the sweet scent of freshly harvested mangoes filled packing facilities in Guimaras, local farmers marked another milestone in bringing one of the Philippines’ most prized fruits to the global stage. The latest shipment of fresh Guimaras mangoes to Europe and Hong Kong signals growing opportunities for Filipino growers and strengthens the country’s presence in premium export markets.

On June 9, around 200 kilograms of fresh mangoes from Kokomojo Mango Farm in Sibunag, Guimaras were shipped overseas as part of efforts to expand the international reach of Philippine agricultural products. Of the total shipment, 50 kilograms were sent to the Netherlands, another 50 kilograms to Belgium, and 100 kilograms to Hong Kong.

The export initiative reflects the government’s continuing push to open new markets for high-value crops while increasing income opportunities for local farmers. Guimaras mangoes are widely recognized for their exceptional sweetness, rich flavor, and quality, making them among the most sought-after mango varieties in the country.

Agriculture officials said the shipment is part of a broader strategy to position Philippine mangoes in premium international markets. By meeting strict quality and food safety standards, local producers can gain access to buyers willing to pay higher prices for top-quality fruits.

For mango growers in Guimaras, the development represents more than just an export transaction. It highlights years of work in improving production practices, maintaining fruit quality, and complying with international market requirements. Successful exports can help generate additional income for farming communities while encouraging greater investment in the local mango industry.

The Philippines remains one of the world's recognized producers of high-quality tropical fruits. However, competition from other mango-exporting countries continues to grow. Industry stakeholders believe that expanding exports and strengthening branding efforts can help Philippine mangoes secure a stronger foothold in global markets.

The Department of Agriculture has been supporting initiatives aimed at increasing agricultural exports, improving farm productivity, and helping farmers connect with international buyers. Such efforts are expected to contribute to rural development and create more economic opportunities in agricultural communities.

The latest shipment from Guimaras serves as a reminder of the global potential of Philippine agriculture. As demand for premium tropical fruits continues to rise, local farmers and producers are hopeful that more markets will open, allowing Filipino products to gain greater recognition worldwide.

With every box of mangoes shipped abroad, the hard work of Filipino farmers reaches new consumers across continents, showcasing the quality and excellence of Philippine agriculture on the world stage.
